Frances Benn Hall’s first play was produced at the University of Wisconsin where she recieved a Master of Arts degree in Theatre. Since that time, she has written many plays and has been in playwriting seminars led by John Gassner, Harold Clurman, Sinclair Lewis, and William Gibson.
She has furthered her theatre studies at UCLA, Trinity
College Oxford, and at Yeats and Synge summer schools in
Ireland, where in 1995, she was playwright in residence at
the Kiltartan Hedge School.

After Pat Nichols, a lifelong Pittsfield resident, raised a family of seven children, she graduated from Berkshire Community College and then received her BA in English at The University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Following graduation she did graduate work at Trinity College, Oxford, England.
She began her career as a journalist and her work has appeared in such publications as The Boston Globe, The Albany Times-Union, Entrepreneur Magazine, and many other national magazines. She writes regularly for The Berkshire Eagle and has written for virtually every newspaper in the Berkshire area.
Covering the arts and entertainment scene in the
Berkshires since the late ’90s, NewBerkshire is
published by Dave Conlin Read, a native of Oswego, NY who
moved to the Berkshires in 1981 to take a position teaching
English at a residential school for emotionally-disturbed
adolescents. He segued into working with adult consumers of
mental health services in 1990 and was ready for services
himself when the Internet came along mid-decade.
