"WATCH & PLAY" SUNDAY-AFTERNOON PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN

The Tanglewood Association of the Boston Symphony Association of Volunteers has announced details for "Watch & Play," a program for children accompanied by their parents attending Sunday afternoon Tanglewood concerts. Programs will be held on the porch of the Visitor Center starting at 1 p.m. on four Sundays: July 11, July 18, August 8, and August 15.

"Watch & Play" programs are designed to engage children in the music they will hear at the afternoon's Boston Symphony Orchestra concert. Local community music educators will highlight themes from the afternoon's concert and community musicians will demonstrate featured instruments. • August 8 - Mahler's Symphony No. 1 - Brass, presented by: Synergy Brass Ensemble
• August 15 - Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, Act II - Strings, presented by: Jerry Elias, former BSO violin

TANGLEWOOD'S 17TH ANNUAL BERKSHIRE NIGHT TO FEATURE BOSTON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA PERFORMANCE ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 20

The Boston Symphony Orchestra's 17th annual Berkshire Night at Tanglewood is scheduled for Friday, August 20. Berkshire-area residents presenting valid Berkshires IDs may receive two complimentary tickets per person to the Boston Symphony Orchestra's evening performance at 8:30 p.m. in the Koussevitzky Music Shed. Tickets for Berkshire Night must be picked up in advance of the concert from the Tanglewood Box Office on Saturday, August 14, from1 p.m. to 3 p.m., or on Sunday, August 15 or Monday, August 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Complimentary tickets will not be available on the day of the performance. Tickets are limited and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The volunteer chairs for Berkshire Night are Nancy Glynn and Julie Quain. Berkshire Night at Tanglewood is sponsored by Berkshire Bank. Berkshire Bank is a member of the Tanglewood Business Friends Ten, in honor of their support of Seiji Ozawa Hall's 10th anniversary and consistent generosity to Tanglewood.

The Boston Symphony's Berkshire Night performance features conductor Emmanuel Krivine leading the orchestra, with Lars Vogt as soloist, in Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1. The program opens with the Overture to Mendelssohn's The Fair Melusine, and closes with Schumann's Symphony No. 4. Ticket-holders to that evening's BSO Shed concerts are also admitted free of charge to a Prelude Concert in Seiji Ozawa Hall beginning at 6 p.m., featuring BSO members Sheila Fiekowsky (violin) and Martha Babcock (cello) with pianist Garrick Ohlsson in Chausson's Trio in G minor for violin, cello, and piano, Op. 3, and Dvo*ák's Trio No. 4 in E minor for violin, cello, and piano, Op. 90, Dumky. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis when the grounds open at 5:30 p.m.

Additional activities for the evening include free walking tours of the Tanglewood grounds, starting at 6 p.m. from the Visitor Center, and an "Instrument Petting Zoo," to be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Chamber Music Hall behind the Tappan Manor House. The "Petting Zoo" will allow children accompanied by their parents to experience a variety of string, brass, and woodwind instruments up close.
